Spring Season

February 27, 2017 – June 9, 2017

Monday – Friday, 4:15 pm – 6:30 pm (4:15 pm - 6:00 pm before dock is installed)

Cost: $570

Summary

The spring season is the MRC Juniors primary racing season.  The first weeks of the spring season are conducted indoors at Fight Club, as the water has yet to thaw. Once the ice breaks, and the docks are installed, practices are held on the water.  Practices are Monday through Friday, 4:15 pm to 6:00 pm, before the dock is installed.  The schedule switches to 4:15 to 6:30 pm once we are back on the water.

The MRC competes against different schools and clubs from around the Midwest with racing beginning in April and continuing through May. Races are 2,000 meters (~1¼ miles) in length.

The dock is currently scheduled to be installed March 11. If the river is still frozen, we will push that date back weekly until the ice has thawed. Practices will continue as normal regardless.

Spring Season:

  • our longest season of the year!
  • the most competitive season for rowing - the national champion is crowned in the spring!
  • high-intensity training with multiple racing opportunities throughout the season
  • of paramount importance for athletes planning to row in college

Chaperone

Chaperones are needed for our Oak Ridge and Cincinnati trips.  As a chaperone, you travel with the team on the buses (free and easy transportation!) and stay in the team hotel.  Primary responsibilities include assisting the coaches with purchasing food (reimbursed for any expenses), maintaining our tent area (food tables, watching the athletes, directing cleanup, etc.), and supervising the athletes at the hotel.

Although traveling on the bus is free, chaperones are responsible for the cost of their food and hotel.  Rooms are reserved for chaperones at the hotel, but must be paid for upon arrival.

This is a great chance to contribute to the program with your time and talents.  If interested, email Roger at rhuffman51@gmail.com.

Spring Break

Practice will continue as usual through all area schools' spring breaks.  Be sure to inform your coach ASAP of any practices missed due to vacation.  The coaches will be accommodating to such absences.
